About Me

Hi, I’m Laura.

Blogging, grant writing, articles, speech writing, and content creation written from a diverse perspective to illuminate, inspire, and impact.

As an experienced educator, nonprofit leader, and first-generation college graduate, I returned to my passion for writing to help fulfill your organization’s aspirations.

During my than 20 years in middle school education and nonprofit management in many neighborhoods and roles, I’ve spent countless hours observing and learning from the diverse perspectives of the communities I’ve lived and worked in. As a first-generation college student in 1999, I began my journey at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. After one year in the prestigious program, I fell victim to imposter syndrome, believing I lacked the preparation my peers from more affluent backgrounds had received. I transitioned to education and social policy and have focused on improving the educational outcomes of middle school students in disinvested neighborhoods.

Twenty years and a successful career later, I am thrilled to return to my roots and my passion for writing and storytelling, armed with not only confidence that my background and diverse experience will aid in my ability to share impactful stories but also with the belief that my identity makes me uniquely able to do this work.

I often write about middle school education, raising girls, strategies for supporting middle school girls, and nonprofit education management.

My life also includes a household full of pets, a huge Chicago sports fan, and have recently discovered the magic of traveling. While these are my go-to writing topics, I’d love to hear what stories I can help you bring to life.

Does my story resonate?
